Memorable Manitobans: John W. “Johnnie” Gatschuff (1933-2004)

Businessman.

Born at Winnipeg in 1933, son of Anna and John Gatschuff, he graduated from St. John's High School in 1950 and attended the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba in the 1950s. In 1964, he took over the family business and became President of Canadian Tool and Die. The company grew from a small family business into a multi-million dollar manufacturing operation acquiring Integra Castings at Winkler, RVI Equipment, Power Pin and the building of a second foundry in Cando, North Dakota. In 1975, he married Ann Jane Umlah. He died at Winnipeg on 14 December 2004.
