Born at London, Ontario on 28 October 1867, he came to Winnipeg around 1901 and worked as a carpenter and building contractor, mostly of private residences in the Fort Rouge and Crescentwood neighbourhoods. In late 1912, he was charged under the Building Trades and Protection Act with having dangerous work conditions at his construction sites. When he appeared before Magistrate Hugh J. Macdonald, he was quoted as saying the Act was a “joke”, was found guilty, and fined.
He and wife Rebecca J. Fitzgerald (1867-?) had four children: Hubert Leslie Fitzgerald (1887-?), Roy Fitzgerald (1889-?), Ainslie Fitzgerald (1890-?), and Leon H. Fitzgerald (1891-?). In early 1907, he announced plans to relocate to California and put his home up for auction. It is unclear if he actually moved but, by 1909, he was living at 311 Rosedale Avenue in Winnipeg.
His whereabouts after 1911 are presently unknown.
