Memorable Manitobans: Laurie Edward Evans (1933-2016)

Plant scientist, MLA (1988-1990).

Born at Unity, Saskatchewan on 14 October 1933, he was educated at the University of Saskatchewan (BSc) and University of Manitoba (PhD). He was Head of the Department of Plant Science at the University of Manitoba. In 1973, he was inducted to the Fort Garry Order of the Gate in recognition of his service as an advisor on culture and recreation. Elected at the 1988 provincial general election, he served a single term as MLA for Fort Garry (1988-1990). In retirement, he was a councillor for the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne. He died at Winnipeg on 19 June 2016.
