Memorable Manitobans: Philipp Rudolf Ens (1939-2024)

Businessman.

Born at Reinland on 9 September 1939, sixth of ten children of Heinrich Gerhard Ens (c1899-1972) and Maria Wiebe (?-?), he was educated at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute, Winkler Collegiate, Elim Bible Institute in Altona, and Canadian Mennonite Bible College, taking courses in music, conducting, and biblical studies at the latter. He took part-time classes in accounting and business administration at Red River College.

in 1965 he established a company that would become Triple E Canada, a recreational-vehicle manufacturing company with his father-in-law Peter William Enns and brother-in-law Peter Elias. He served as President and CEO of the firm (1969-1998) then Chairman until his death. In recognition of his business success, he was inducted into the Manitoba Manufacturers Hall of Fame (2013) and the Order of Manitoba (2017).

In 1960, he married Katy Enns (?-2000) of Greenfarm and they had four children. He married Ilse Krentz in 2001.

He died at Winnipeg on 11 May 2024.
