Home economist.
Born at Winnipeg on 2 April 1924, daughter of Beatrice Catherine Carrothers (1887-1987) and Joseph Henry Ellis, she attended General Steele School, St. Mary's Academy, and the University of Manitoba, graduating from the latter with a BSc Honours degree in Home Economics.
She worked for the Department of Public Health at Winnipeg for two years then joined the Swift Canadian Company at Toronto, Ontario, adopted their trade name “Martha Logan”. She achieved national recognition through cooking schools across Canada, television commercials, and numerous Martha Logan cookbooks. At the height of her career, she suffered a paralyzing stroke and returned to Winnipeg to live with her parents. She worked to regain her sight, speech, and mobility, developing a talent for oil painting. She enjoyed gardening and politics.
She died at the Misericordia Hospital on 12 March 1991 and was buried with her family in the Brookside Cemetery.
