Memorable Manitobans: Norman Bruce Edie (1926-2011)

Farmer, community activist.

Born at the St. Boniface Hospital on 25 July 1926, he was raised at Dugald. After receiving a Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba (1956), he worked on the family dairy farm. He was active in several agricultural organizations, including Manitoba Cattle Producer's Association, Carman Farm Business Management Group, Keystone Agricultural Producers, Manitoba Crop Insurance, and Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame. He was named Manitoba Farmer of the Year in 1974. On 27 December 1955, he married nurse Lois Darlene Duke (1932-1998) and they had three daughters and two sons. He was a member of the Dugald United Church. He died at the Seven Oaks Hospital on 1 November 2011 and was buried in the Transcona Cemetery.
