Educator.
Born at Cape Town, South Africa on 11 February 1934, son of Percy and Mary Dickens, he received a teaching degree from the University of Cape Town before immigrating to Canada in 1966. He settled at Winnipeg and taught at Kelvin High School where he was instrumental in introducing the International Baccalaureate program and was its coordinator. While teaching, he received an MA degree in History (1982) from the University of Manitoba, with a thesis entitled “Winnipeg, Imperialism, and the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Celebration, 1897”. After retirement, he taught at the University of Winnipeg Collegiate. In 1992, he received a 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation Medal. He was married twice, first to Margaret Juliana “Rita” Dickens (?-1993). In 1995, he married Norma. He died at the Seven Oaks General Hospital on 17 May 2026.
