Memorable Manitobans: Charles Cuntz (1855-1936)Farmer. Born at Conestogo, Ontario on 6 March 1855, son of Jacob Cuntz and Philipine Herman, he left school at the age of 16 to learn the cooper’s trade from his father. He worked as a cooper until 1880 when he came to Manitoba and took up a homestead near Shoal Lake. On 2 September 1879, he married Veronica Bowman (1857-?) of Waterloo, Ontario. They had ten children: William Cuntz (1882-?), Ida Cuntz (?-?, wife of Edward R. Snider), Ella Cuntz (1883-?), Emma Vernice Cuntz (1886-?, wife of Charles Brydon), Lincoln Cuntz (1888-?), Clara Cuntz (1890-?), Charles Irwin Cuntz (1892-?), Walter Jacob Cuntz (1895-1920), Nelson Emanuel Cuntz (1898-?), and Roy Bowman Cuntz (1900-?). He served as a trustee on the Edgehill School Board, and was an adherent of the Presbyterian Church. He died at Shoal Lake on 31 August 1936 and was buried in the Shoal Lake Cemetery.
