Born in Ireland in 1848, he came to Canada as a young man and worked in Eastern Canada. He married for the second time in 1894. Mary Wilkinson (?-?), his second wife, had emigrated from Ireland. He had seven children. He moved to Russell in 1880 and farmed for several years, winning prizes for horses and other exhibits at Brandon and Winnipeg fairs. Later he bought a mill at Millwood. He served as Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Russell from 1908 to his death, which occurred on 10 January 1911. He was buried in the Russell Cemetery.
