Memorable Manitobans: Bruce Gilchrist Duncan Campbell (1936-2022)

Businessman.

Born on a farm near Chater on 25 June 1936, son of Duncan and Kathleen Campbell, he attended Clinton School, Brandon Collegiate, and graduate with a degree in Animal Science from the University of Manitoba (1958). He began working as a sales representative for Feed Rite Mills then purchased an interest in a rural feed business at Landmark in 1968, becoming sole owner in 1977. He turned Landmark Feeds into a leading agribusiness before selling it to Maple Leaf Foods in 1999.

In recognition of his business prowess, he received a Canadian Feed Industry Association Golden Award (1995), Manitoba Entrepreneur of the Year (Agriculture/Food, 1999), Prairies Region Entrepreneur of the Year (1999), and Manitoba Institute of Agrologists Distinguished Award (2002). He was inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (2004) and Order of Canada (2015), received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Manitoba (2007), and was made a Fellow of the Agricultural Institute of Canada (2011) and a member of the Manitoba Business Hall of Fame (2016).

He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 17 May 2022.
