Businessman, community activist.
Born at Winnipeg on 29 June 1930, son of Henry Borger and Barbara Lebrock, he attended Ralph Brown School, Machray School, and St. John's High School before beginning a lifelong career in heavy construction and land development, as a member of the family-owned Borger group of companies. For many years, he was General Manager of Borger Brothers Limited (later known as Borland Construction). He led its utilities division and worked on many sewer and water projects across western Canada. He chaired the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association, Western Canada Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association, and sat on the board of directors of the Canadian Construction Association.
He and wife Maureen had three sons. Active as a builder in minor and junior hockey in Manitoba, he served for 38 years with Hockey Manitoba and Hockey Canada. He also was a director of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. For 28 years, he owned and administered the St. Boniface Saints Hockey Club in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. For his support of amateur hockey, he was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame (2005).
He died at Winnipeg on 17 July 2011.
