Rebecca Catherine Barrett

MLA (1990-1995), MLA (1995-1999), MLA (1999-2003).
Born at Pensacola, Florida on 1 May 1942, daughter of Betty and Dirk Barrett, she received a BA in English degree from the University of Chicago then worked as an assistant to California congressman Ron Dellums.
After moving to Winnipeg in 1975, she received an MA in Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba then embarked on a distinguished career with the Manitoba New Democratic Party starting in the 1980s. Elected to the Manitoba Legislative Assembly at the 1990 general election, she was re-elected in 1995 and 1999. She served as Minister of Labour and Minister Responsible for the Civil Service (1999-2001), Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism (1999-2003), and Minister of Labour and Immigration (2001-2003). She was not a candidate in the 2003 general election. In recognition of her community service, she received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002).
She was married twice, first to ? Kuypers with whom she had a daughter and a son. She later married David Wilson Woodbury.
She died at the Riverview Health Centre on 26 January 2024.
