Memorable Manitobans: William A. Bannister (1875-?)Hotelier. Born in New Brunswick in 1875, son of Henry C. Bannister, came to Winnipeg with his father and was educated in local schools, later joining his father in the hotel business. In 1892, he moved to Carberry where he established the Dufferin Hotel. He later bought the mens furnishings business of W. A. Garland and operated it under the name of Williams and Bannister. In 1899, he married Florence Cary of Oak River, Manitoba. They had three children: Henry Bannister, Ethel Bannister, and Hazel Bannister.
