Memorable Manitobans: Terry Angantyr Arnason (1903-1982)

Educator.

Born in the Rural Municipality of Dauphin on 28 May 1903, son of Sveinbjorn Arnason (1869-1931) and Maria Bjarnadottir (1870-1956), brother of Ingolfur Gilbert Arnason, his family moved to Winnipeg when he was young. He was the Principal of Ralph Brown School (1946-1950) and Principal Sparling School (1950-1954). He was married twice, first on 24 August 1927 to Zora Ellen Torrey (1906-2004). They had two children before divorcing: Terry Angantyr Arnason (c1931-2017) and Arlene Arnason (1935-2002, wife of Donald A. Young). His second wife, married on 7 April 1955, was Elsabet Gudrun Petursson (1904-1989). He died at North Vancouver, British Columbia on 31 March 1982.
