Memorable Manitobans: Gerry-Jenn Wilson (1968-2021)

Musician.

Born at Guelph, Ontario on 24 December 1968, daughter of Robert G. “Bob” Wilson and step-daughter of Charlene Rizok, her childhood was spent in Winnipeg where she attended Kelvin High School. At the age of 17, she began publishing a magazine on the neo-punk music community. Her musical career began with Hypnotic Wail. In 1990, she moved to Vancouver where she performed with numerous bands until forming her own group JP5 in 1996. It performed until 2001 and released one album, Hot Box. She then formed an all-girl band The East Vamps (2008-2016) that recorded two albums. She died as a result of a fire in her home at Maple Ridge, British Columbia on 30 March 2021.
