Memorable Manitobans: Joseph Wilkinson (1865-?)Physician. Born at Cheshire, England on 23 January 1865, the sixth in a family of ten children of Joseph Wilkinson and Ann Bassford, the family emigrated to Canada where he was educated at Ontario public schools and Wesley College in Winnipeg. In June 1897, he graduated with a medical degree from the Manitoba Medical College and practiced for two years in North Dakota. He then returned to Manitoba and purchased the practice at Roland of Drs. Tripp and Duncan. In November 1897, he married Maggie J. Murphy. They had three children: Edgar Joseph Wilkinson, Charles Murphy Wilkinson, and Bertha E. Wilkinson. He was a member of the IOOF, Canadian Order of Foresters, and Masons.
