Memorable Manitobans: Irene Weisensel (1919-2007)Nurse. Born on 15 August 1919, she graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a neurology scrub nurse in Montreal. Following her return home to Winnipeg, she became the city’s first public health nurse and played a role in the formation of the nurse’s union. She retired in 1975. She died at Winnipeg on 24 January 2007 and was buried in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
