Memorable Manitobans: Arthur Chadwick Waller (1870-1943)

Building contractor.

Born at Cheshire, England on 20 February 1870, he came to Canada in 1886 and lived in Ontario for a time. He moved to Winnipeg around the turn of the 20th century and worked as a building contractor, alone or in partnership with others.

He was married twice, first on 11 January 1899 to Laura Ellen Dunn (1874-1909) at Orillia, Ontario. They had a daughter, Connie Waller (c1902-?). On 16 January 1911, he married Marion Maude Emily Forster (?-?) at St. Boniface and they had five children: Frank Chadwick Waller (1911-1973), Laura Marjorie Waller (?-?, wife of Orwell Henry Ray), Marion Patricia Waller (1915-?, wife of Richard Wood), Dorothy Anita Waller (1917-?, wife of Henry Thomas Montgomery), and ? Waller (?-?, wife of L. G. Symons). He was a St. Boniface city alderman (1909-1912) and a member of St. Philips's Anglican Church.

He died at his Norwood home, 100 Hillcrest Avenue, on 22 July 1943 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
