Born at Sweden on 12 August 1863, he came to the United States in 1882. For many years, he worked for the architectural firm of Watson and Company. He later became involved in business with Herbert Torrence Hazelton [Hazleton]. They moved to Winnipeg in 1910 and worked as building contractors in the firm of Hazelton and Walin [Hazleton and Walin].
In 1888, he married Anna Nilson (1861-1942) at Chicago, Illinois and they had two children: H. S. Walin and ? Walin (wife of W. C. Sharpe and J. T. Livingstone).
He died at his Winnipeg home, Suite 4 - Milan Apartments, on 17 January 1926 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. The pallbearers were Herbert Torrence Hazelton [Hazleton], Thomas Sharpe, Frank Benjamin Hazleton, R. W. Sheardon, W. McCartney, and A. Nelson.
