Memorable Manitobans: Robert George Thompson (1874-?)

Businessman.

Born at Toronto, Ontario in 1874, son of Robert Thompson and Louise Saunders, he moved with his family to Pennsylvania where he was educated from graduated in 1892 from the Pittsburgh High School. He worked on the railroad until 1902 when he came to Winnipeg and went into the real estate business, first by himself, and after 1910 in partnership with Howard P. Carper in the firm of Thompson & Carper. He also operated the general investment firm of R. G. Thompson & Company.

On 11 December 1907, at Winnipeg, he married Charlotte Walker of Toronto. They had three children: Grace Thompson, Allen Thompson, and Blake Thompson. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Masons, and Presbyterian Church.
