Memorable Manitobans: Alexander Finlayson “Al” Templeton (1924-2006)

Community activist.

Born at Glasgow, Scotland on 14 February 1924 to Matthew and Christine Templeton, he came with his family to Winnipeg in 1929 and later served in the Canadian Navy (1942-1945). He then worked for CN Telecommunications and the University of Manitoba until his retirement in 1989. He was involved for many years with La Verendrye Game and Fish Association and during that time co-founded and chaired the Junior Rifle Club and the Manitoba Hunter Safety Program. With his wife Hazel Templeton (1925-2011), he had two children. He died at Winnipeg on 23 March 2006.
