Memorable Manitobans: Etta May Moore Simpson (1873-1952)

Educator.

Born at Springfield, Ontario on 30 October 1873, daughter of Ada Moore, she came to Manitoba in 1892 and taught at Daly Union School (1898-1899) and Brandon Central School (circa 1906) then attended Brandon College (circa 1909). She then taught at Neepawa Central School (circa 1911) followed by service as the Principal of Glenboro School (1916-1918) and Elkhorn School (1918-1919).

On 27 March 1920, she married storekeeper John Wright Simpson (c1871-1959) at the Chalmers church in Winnipeg and lived successively at Tadmore (Saskatchewan), Glencairn and, as of 1939, Brandon. She had two daughters: Margaret Simpson (1910-?, wife of ? Wood) and Florence Simpson (1914-?, wife of ? McKenzie) and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She died at Brandon on 28 March 1952 and was buried in the Brandon Cemetery.
