Horticulturist.
Born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 20 June 1912, one of five children of James Howard Silversides (c1885-?) and Mary Agnes Henderson (c1890-1969), he came to St. Boniface at an early age and attended Riverview School, Lord Roberts School, and Kelvin High School. He later obtained BScAg and MScAg degrees from the University of Manitoba. He worked for T&T Seeds (c1946), Interprovincial Co-operatives in Winnipeg, and Federated Co-operatives in Saskatoon. Upon retirement he returned to Winnipeg to pursue his interests in gardening and golf. He was a charter member of the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists, and a member of the Canadian Prairie Lily Society and the North American Lily Society. On 27 December 1941, he married Bernice Elizabeth Dawson (1918-1997) at Brandon and they had two sons. He died at the Grace Hospital on 14 May 1991.
