Memorable Manitobans: Fanny Ivy Parr Shaw (1907-1966)

Educator.

Born at Killarney on 9 February 1907, daughter of Emily Alma Elizabeth Western (1879-1975) and William Joseph Parr, she taught in rural Manitoba schools, including service as Principal of MacGregor School (1931-1934), before moving to Winnipeg in 1958 where she was a member of the teaching staff at Grant Park High School until retirement. On 16 September 1939, she married Alexander McLeod “Alex” Shaw and they had one son, Gary Alexander Shaw. She was a member of St. Andrew's River Heights United Church. She died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 28 December 1966 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
