Corrections officer, administrator.
Born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 24 May 1955 to Muriel and Ed Jones, she moved with her family to Portage la Prairie at a young age and received her education there. After graduation, she began to work for the Department of Justice at Winnipeg as a part-time Matron. While continuing to work for the Department, she worked her way up the ranks by taking night courses at the University of Manitoba, until she eventually became the Superintendent of Headingly Correctional Centre, where she remained until her passing. In 2004 she received the Government of Canada’s Exemplary Service Medal for her work in Corrections.
She was a member of the Manitoba Métis Federation and the board of the Canadian Institute of Management (CMI). While raising her four children with her husband Lawrence “Larry” Sandney, she was very active in the community, often coaching or officiating various sports. Her special times were spent at the summer cottage with her family and friends.
She died at Winnipeg on 2 September 2007 and was buried in the Hillside Cemetery.
