Born in Clarence Township, Russell County, Ontarion in 1875, he came to Winnipeg in 1903. He worked in the construction industry, as a member of the firm Pain and Roe until his retirement as a general contractor in 1957. In 1915, he married schoolteacher Viola Annetta Johnson (1885-1984) and they had two daughters, ? Roe and Bernadine Viola Roe (1920-2001, wife of John Hunter Restall). The family lived on Salter Street from 1918 to 1963. He was a member of St. John's United Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Masons (King Edward Lodge 93), IOUF, and Canadian Woodmen of the World. He died at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital on 16 September 1965 and was buried in the St. John's Cathedral Cemetery.
