Memorable Manitobans: Ormond Leslie “Les” Robinson (1884-1954)Businessman. Born at Harriston, Ontario on 26 June 1884, son of fuel dealer Thomas D. Robinson and Elizabeth Copeland (1849-1926), after leaving school he joined his father’s business, T. D. Robinson & Sons Limited, and worked there for 25 years. He was then a manufacturers’ agent until retirement in 1949. On 2 June 1909, he married Muriel Claire Ritchie (1888-1949) at Winnipeg. They had two children: Muriel Elizabeth “Betty” Robinson (1910-?) and Ormond Leslie “Ormie” Robinson (1915-2010). He was a member of the Victorias hockey team (1902-1903) and was goaltender for the Shamrock football team when it won the Manitoba championship in 1902. He was a member of the Central Congregational Church and later attended St. George’s Anglican Church. He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 4 July 1954 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
