Memorable Manitobans: Marietta Emily Taylor “Reita” Richardson (1898-1970)Community activist. Born at Portage la Prairie on 16 January 1898, daughter of Elizabeth Jane Rutledge (1875-1902) and William Ralph Taylor, she was educated at the Portage Collegiate Institute. On 17 May 1922, she married Frank Boswick Cameron Richardson (1894-1974) at Portage la Prairie and they had two daughters and a son. Active in community affairs, she was a school trustee for 12 years, a member and Chairman of the Portage Secondary Area Board and first Chairman of the Portage la Prairie School Division following its formation in 1959. She was also a President of the Portage Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Board of Governors of Brandon College, a member of the Board of Reference on Education for the province of Manitoba, and President of the Portage Ladies Conservative Association. She was a member of St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church and Manitoba Conservative Association. She died at Windsor, Ontario on 3 May 1970 and was buried in the St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Cemetery. Sources:Marriage registration, Manitoba Vital Statistics.
