Memorable Manitobans: Abraham Samuel “Abe” Rich (1911-1994)

Businessman.

Born in Poland on 12 March 1911, he came to Winnipeg at the age of 15. In 1939, he founded the Winnipeg Pants and Sportswear Manufacturing Company, which developed into Richlu Sportswear (Richlu Manufacturing). He and wife Jennie Freiden (1916-2007, daughter of Joseph and Rivka Freiden) had three daughters and two sons. He was active in charities in Winnipeg and Israel. He died at the St. Boniface General Hospital on 22 October 1994 and was buried in the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery.
