Educator, sports coach.
Born at Boston, Massachusetts on 20 September 1942, his childhood was spent at Dover (Massachusetts) and Springfield (Vermont). He attended Yankton College in South Dakota where he excelled in football and track and field, and received a BA degree in History. Around 1967, he moved to Manitoba and taught and coached at Grant Park High School and Nelson McIntyre Collegiate.
He then went to the University of Manitoba where he coached the men's Bison team to seven Western Canadian titles and seven national championships between 1988 and 1996. He competed in shot put for Canada in the 1972 Munich Olympics, 1974 Commonwealth Games (bronze medal), 1975 Pan Am Games (gold medal), and 1976 Montreal Olympics.
In recognition of his athletic excellence and community service, he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame (1987) and Manitoba Football Hall of Fame (?). He was an inaugural inductee to the Athletics Manitoba Hall of Fame (2023) and he received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002).
He died at Winnipeg on 8 August 2024, survived by three daughters.
