Educator, businessman.
Born at Alberta in 1914, son of Randolph M. Penman (1887-1971) and Margaret Whiteman (1892-1966), his parents returned to Dauphin, where they had been married in July 1914, and he attended grade school and Normal School, with university enrollment at Edmonton and the University of Manitoba.
He worked as a telegraph operator for the Canadian Northern Railway and taught in the Flin Flon School District (c1940) and Dauphin Town School District No. 903. On 25 August 1941, he married fellow teacher Alma Irene Miles (1914-2011) at Dauphin. They took up residence at Portage la Prairie and had three sons. He joined his wife on the teaching staff of the Lakeview Institute at the Manitoba Home for Boys, where he taught (1960-1965), was Principal (1960-1968), and Choir Master. He was also President of Penman’s Music Store in Portage la Prairie and taught the Elks Junior Band (which became the Portage School Band). He was a member of the Elks, Masons, Khartum Temple Shrine Orchestra, Rotary Club, Canadian Legion, Army Navy Airforce Veterans Club, and Trinity United Church.
He died at Portage la Prairie on 18 August 1984 and was buried in the Portage Hillside Cemetery.
