Lawyer.
Born at Rochester, New York on 28 May 1931, son of Nicholas Michael Mercury (?-1983) and Helen Vakos (?-1987), he moved to Winnipeg in 1941. He received a law degree from the University of Manitoba (1956). He practiced with several law firms before joining Aikins MacAulay Thorvaldson in 1969. He remained there until retirement in 1996. A successful litigator, he appeared before all levels of provincial and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He was made a Queen's Counsel (1986). He and wife Margaret had a daughter. He retired to Brentwood Bay, British Columbia in 2005 and died there on 25 February 2026.
