Educator.
Born at Winnipeg on 15 April 1918, one of six children of Oscar Edward Mehmel (c1880-1951) and Phillippine Rudolf (1884-1980), he received BEd and BSc degrees and taught school for much of his adult life. After serving in the Canadian armed forces during the Second World War, he taught at Kissman School (1945-1946) and was the Principal of Franklin School (1950-1952), Starbuck School (1952-1953), Viscount Alexander High School (1953-1956), Oak Point School (1959-1961), Beulah School (1961-1962), Ashern School (1962-1964), and Amaranth Collegiate (1964-1965). In 1944, he met and married nurse Adelina Janzen (1921-2013) and they had eight children. He died at Winnipeg on 14 December 2013 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
