Memorable Manitobans: William Harper McGuire (1862-1902)

Businessman.

Born at Westport, Ontario in 1862, he was a commercial traveller in Ontario for four years before coming to Winnipeg in 1898 where he was Manager of the James Smart Manufacturing Company. In 1883, he married Elvira Jane Clarke (1861-1946) and they had four children: Edna F. McGuire (wife of William E. Loftus), ? McGuire (wife of Dolph Petersen), N. S. McGuire, and J. H. McGuire. The family lived at 64 George Street at the time of his death. He died at Winnipeg on 6 December 1902 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
