Born in Ireland on 21 June 1844, son of Robert and Jane McComb, he came to Canada in 1848. He sent 35 years in western Canada, including nine years at Calgary, and worked as a building contractor. He was married twice, first on 12 October 1871 to Jane Stewart (?-?) at Toronto, Ontario. His second wife was Agnes Gray (1851-1909). He had four children: E. Mary McComb (1882-?), M. Kate McComb (1884-?), Jos. Annie McComb (1887-?), and Len David McComb (1890-?). He was a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge and served as Grand Master and Grand Preceptor. He died at his Stony Mountain residence on 19 May 1907 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
