Military officer.
Born at Toronto, Ontario on 26 February 1867, son of George Frederick MacDonald, who came to Manitoba and settled in the Swan Lake district, and Penrose Ann Savage, he came to Winnipeg in 1885. Educated at the Rockwood Academy and the University of Toronto University, he served with the North West Mounted Police (1891-1894) then was a Dominion Government Inspector of Stock for the North West Territories.
In 1896, he married Gertrude Laura Graham (?-?) and they had five sons: Edward MacDonald, George MacDonald, Jack MacDonald, William MacDonald, and Henry MacDonald. The family lived at 469 Telfer Street, Winnipeg. He was an Anglican.
He died at his Winnipeg home, 538 Greenwood Place, on 9 January 1930 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
