Memorable Manitobans: Peter Loewen (c1924-2010)Educator, civil servant, municipal official. He grew up in Silberfeld and lived his adult life in Gretna and Winnipeg. He worked as a school teacher, served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, and spent most of the working life with the federal Department of Customs and Excise. He was Mayor of Gretna (1958-1970), led local plans for Manitoba's centenary (1970), and was a member of the Altona Hospital Board. He died at St. Catharines, Ontario on 1 May 2010.
