Memorable Manitobans: Arwid Ludwig Lindenberg (1912-1995)

Businessman, community activist.

Born at Libau on 10 October 1912, son of Latvian immigrants Louis Martin Lindenberg (1886-1973) and Emily Ozol (1889-1973), in 1915 the family moved to a farm near Rapid City. In 1935, he and his brother William Bruno Lindenberg, later joined by their brother Arthur Edwin Lindenberg, established a seed and beekeeping business that developed into Lindenberg Seeds.

On 26 December 1941, he married Dorothy Grace Fuller (1919-2020) at Rapid City and they had five sons. He was an active member of First United Church and Central United Church. He served on the Brandon School Board (17 years, Chair 1971-1973) and on the board for the Fairview Personal Care Home (22 years, Chair). He was a member of the founding committees for the Native Friendship Centre and the Retarded Children’s Society of Brandon. He and his brother Arthur co-write History of the Lindenberg Family of Western Manitoba (1985).

He died suddenly while visiting Victoria, British Columbia on 14 February 1995 and was buried in the Brandon Cemetery.
