Born in Denmark in 1887, he came to Winnipeg in 1906 where he worked as a carpenter, in the firm of Langford and Birch and later with his son in Alex Langford and Son Construction Company. He and wife Blanche Gelley (c1890-1968) had two children: Constance Elizabeth May “Connie” Langford (1921-2010, wife of William N. Barritt) and Richard Thomas Langford (?-2009). The family lived at 767 McMillan Avenue. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Winnipeg Jockey Club, and St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church. He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 13 May 1961 and was buried in the Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery.
