Memorable Manitobans: Ernest Cecil Jordan (1879-1958)

Educator.

Born in York County, Ontario on 22 April 1879, son of Frank Jordan (1848-?) and Mariah Jordan (1855-?), he attended high school at Markham, Ontario, became a teacher prior to 1901, and graduated from McMaster University prior to moving west in 1908.

On 3 September 1909, he married Alice Maude Tedd (?-1954) at Winnipeg. They settled at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and had two sons: Frank Jordan (c1912-?) and William Allen Tedd Jordan (1916-?). He taught at Arcola (?-?), Moose Jaw (c1916, nine years), and Swift Current (?-?), prior to returning to Manitoba during the 1920s as a teacher (1922-1926) and Principal (1922-1926) at Gladstone School. He resided briefly at 920 Windermere Avenue in Fort Garry (1926) and may have taught in the vicinity or attended the University of Manitoba. He was later the Principal of Neepawa School (1926-1927), after which he moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan as Principal of Yorkton Collegiate (1927-1930). For many years he was a choir member and the Deacon Clerk for the First Baptist Church.

He died at Yorkton on 29 December 1958 and was buried in the Yorkton Cemetery.
