Memorable Manitobans: James Don Jones (1925-2005)

Educator.

Born in North Carolina in 1925, he served in the US military during the Second World War then returned home and received a BA degree from Fisk University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University. In 1956, he married his wife Jennie and they had three children. He came to Winnipeg and taught at the Knowles School for Boys, Shriners Hospital, Manitoba Youth Centre, and St. Joseph's Vocational School (1972-1974). He also worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway and VIA Rail. He died at Winnipeg on 17 February 2005.
