Memorable Manitobans: William Jenkins (1844-1929)

Farmer.

Born at Arnprior, Ontario on 16 June 1844, son of Peter Jenkins and Mary McGregor, he moved to Manitoba in 1879 and settled on a farm in Township 17, Range 23 near Shoal Lake. He raised cattle, horses and other livestock. On 31 July 1878, he married Mary English in Stanley Township, Ontario. They had six children: Letitia Jenkins (wife of Frank Werrett), George Jenkins, Mary McGregor Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, William Jenkins, and Nellie Jenkins (wife of J. R. Stocker). He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Grain Growers Association. He died at Shoal Lake on 19 December 1929.
