Memorable Manitobans: Philip Kenneth “Phil” Isaac (1928-2021)

Professor.

Born at Brantham, East Suffolk, England on 23 January 1928, son of Kenneth and Janet Isaac, he received a PhD at Imperial College (London) and moved to Winnipeg in 1952 to join the academic staff of the Department of Botany at the University of Manitoba. He built Manitoba 's first electron microscope and taught microscopy. He was a founding member of the Manitoba Museum of Manitoba and Nature, and a member of the Scientific Club of Winnipeg and the Gimli Yacht Club. He served as Director of the Delta Marsh Field Station (1986-1988) until retirement. In 1950, he married Lyn and they had a son and three daughters. He died at his home at Camp Morton on 25 June 2021.
