Memorable Manitobans: George Nelson Hawn (1913-1989)

Educator.

Born at Baldur on 6 February 1913, youngest son of William Albert Hawn (1881-1947) and Sarah Alecta Priscilla Alfreda Chester (c1878-1962), as of 1941 he resided at Hartney and married Margaret Elizabeth Bateman (1915-2010, daughter of Sydney H. Bateman) at her parents’ Glenora residence on 12 August 1941. He taught at Wigton School (1935-1938) and was the Principal of Chapman School (1943-1945) and lived in the Varsity View postal area around 1947, when he attended classes at the University of Manitoba. By 1962, He and his wife had moved to Kentville, Ontario where he died in 1989.
