Memorable Manitobans: Gerald Robert “Gerry” Green (1929-2014)

Educator.

Born at Grandview on 9 November 1929, son of Clara and George Green, he was educated at the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg. His teaching career began at a succession of one-room schools in rural Manitoba then he was Principal at Binscarth School (1954-1958) and Springfield Heights School. He then became Assistant Superintendent in the St. Boniface School Division. In 1974, he became an administrator of the Canadian Forces’ school system in Germany for five years, serving as Principal of the Senior School at Lahr. Returning to Winnipeg, he was Assistant Superintendent of the River East School Division until retirement. He died at Winnipeg on 4 November 2014.
