Farmer.
Born in Sheffield Township, Ontario on 30 November 1870, he came to Manitoba in 1881 and settled on a farm near Wood Bay. He purchased land until, by 1925, he farmed 640 acres, being one of the most successful farmers in his district. On 5 October 1898, he married Ann Jane McCoy (1873-1950) and they had three sons: William Gordon Gilmour (1900-1997), Harvey Smith Gilmour (1911-1995), and James Herman Gilmour (1914-2004). He served as a Councillor for the Rural Municipality of Louise for six years and a school trustee for fifteen years. He died on 12 February 1929 and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.
