Educator, cleric.
Born in Russia in 1896, he came to Canada in June 1925. He taught at Springstein School (1927-1938) then moved to Winnipeg where he worked at his father-in-law’s furniture firm, C. A. DeFehr and Sons, rising to the position of Secretary-Treasurer by the time of his death. In 1937, he was ordained as a Mennonite Brethren minister and was leading minister at the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church (North End) for five years. He was a director for the Mennonite Brethren Bible Collegiate Institute and the Canadian Bible Society. In May 1923, he married Elizabeth “Liese” DeFehr (1904-1976, daughter of Cornelius Abraham DeFehr) and they had five children: Bettie Fast (wife of John Goossen), Nellie Fast (wife of Peter Dahl), Bernhard Fast, Cornelius Fast, and William Fast. He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 22 December 1963 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
