Memorable Manitobans: Isaac Clayton Ellard (1886-1960)

Businessman.

Born at Ottawa, Carleton County, Ontario in 1886, son of W. J. and Mrs. Ellard, he was educated at Ottawa. He was working in the lumber business when he joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 18 November 1914 where he served with the Motor Transport in France (September 1915) then with the Second Division until September 1919. He then returned to Canada and moved to Manitoba in 1922. On 4 September 1920, he married Eileen Patricia Hancock. His recreations included golf, tennis, and riding. He was a member of the Anglican church. During the Second World War, he organized the “Ritzin' the Blitz” stage production which toured the country promoting Victory Bond Drives. He died in October 1960.
