Memorable Manitobans: George Alexander Eakins (1877-1957)Lawyer. Born at Strathroy, Ontario on 1 September 1877, he came to Manitoba and attended Manitoba College. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1910 and moved to Minnedosa. In 1915, he was appointed a crown attorney for the northern judicial district. He was later made a King's Counsel (1927). He was a Bencher (1919-1937) and Life Bencher (1937-1957) of the Law Society of Manitoba. He retired in 1941. On 29 November 1911, he married May Jeannette Kenney (1884-1965) and they subsequently had four children: Grace Isabel Eakins (1912-?, wife of J. A. Fraser), Paris Richmond Eakins (1914-1942), Gordon William Eakins (1916-?), and George Douglas Eakins (1918-?). He served a term on the Minnedosa town council and was a Chairman of the Minnedosa Hospital Board. He was a member of the AF & AM (Prince of Wales Lodge). He died at Brandon on 3 January 1957 and was buried in the Minnedosa Cemetery.
