Memorable Manitobans: Alice Marion Turner Dent (1918-2016)

Community activist.

Born in 1918, she lived most of her life in Dauphin. In 1947, she married her husband John Edward “Ted” Dent (1917-2007) at Carroll. She was active in the community of Dauphin, participating in the Eastern Star, United Church Women, Toastmistresses, Dauphin Horticultural Society, Rockets Curling, Lionelles, The Festival of the Performing Arts, and Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival. She was also known for visiting the local hospital and personal care home to spend time with the residents and take them on outings. For her service to the community, Governor General Adrienne Clarkson presented her with the Caring Canadian award in 1999. She died at Winnipeg on 27 April 2016.
